LEISURE

The Algarve has activities throughout the region that mix entertainment and activities for all ages. When the sun is not shining, this is the perfect time to explore some alternative attractions until the weather improves, which will not be long in coming as the Algarve has 300 days of sunshine a year.
Enjoy!

HANDICRAFTS
The Algarve is known for its beautiful light and is a perfect place for photography and painting in various media.
In Porches you can watch the ceramic hand painting before it is ready to be sold at the local store. Monchique has an old Algarve tradition - weaving - here you can see how the pieces are made and, since it is in the mountains… don't forget to look for handmade Medronho, another type of “handicraft”, but one that you cannot fail to try !

FEEL THE SPEED
Why not take the opportunity to go karting? Put your driving skills and nerves to the test with the curves and counter-curves of the karting tracks of the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.
This is a real fun way to pass the time during an afternoon without sun.

GOLF and MINI GOLF
If you are a golf fan you can always choose to practice your favorite sport on the courses near your accommodation.
If you like more mini-golf, Alvor has 2 great options to spend a fun leisure time and in very pleasant spaces.

TEN-PIN BOWLING
Bowling is a fantastic activity for the whole family. In Alvor and Praia da Rocha you can find really good Bowling Alleys. Children can take part in the fun too as their are ramps to help the younger visitors roll the bowling balls down the alleys and have a strike.

BREATHING UNDER WATER
If you want an initiation program of a diving baptism in a pool or diving experiences giving the underwater breathing sensation, you can do this in Portimão with divers with years of experience in recreational and technical diving and take advantage of the excellent conditions for diving during most of the year in the Algarve.

FEEL THE NATURE
Animals show themselves not only during the high season in the Algarve, and getting closer to nature is an excellent way to spend a day in the region whatever the time of year.
If you like to enjoy nature, the Ria de Alvor is an estuary between Lagos and Portimão and its 1700 hectares include the estuary, dunes, salt marshes and salt flats that are an international tourist center. It was designated as a Natura 2000 site due to the presence of priority species and habitats at European level. It is a very important ornithological crossing point of the Atlantic - East migratory corridor.

The Ria de Alvor is a small area with delicate environmental balances.

You can also explore the Serra de Monchique or go to East Algarve where you will find the Ria Formosa Natural Park, or to the West where you can walk on pedestrian circuits to take a look at flora and fauna. Sagres is a paradise for birdwatching-as it is a crossing point for migratory birds - in the caves, with the fishermen and from viewpoints. It is on the Costa Vicentina with spectacular scenery and the most beautiful sunset in the Algarve.

GOING OFF-ROAD
Why not drive off-road into the wild on a 4 × 4 Jeep Safari?
Some of the most beautiful parts of the Algarve are not accessible by car and if you prefer not to use the power of the pedal then the best way to see the real rural Algarve is on a jeep ride.
Jeep tours are excellent, leaving you free to see more and travel more with experienced guides pointing out local landmarks and wildlife.

Markets are held regularly and are easy to find, all you have to worry about is your bargaining skills!

DISCOVER THE ALGARVE IN THE OLD WAY
If you are a lover of history and culture, then visit some of our cities; Silves has its impressive castle and cobbled streets, while Faro has museums and a rich selection of shops.
In the mythical village of Sagres, in Vila do Bispo, is the extreme southwest point of continental Europe. In its memory there are maritime flavors, fishing nets, the aromas of the Natural Park and the colors of twilight.
In antiquity, the Sagres promontory was the “end of the known world”. The place where the land ended, the sea began and with it the uncertainty, the dangers and mysteries of routes to be traced. The Promunturium Sacrum, as it was called by the ancients, was always dressed in mysticism and was associated with the control of maritime navigation, at the time of the Discoveries and the Infante D. Henrique.
Discover them!

ENJOY THE SEA BREEZE
For the more adventurous in the vicinity, boat trips along the coast are available. You will be dazzled by the beaches and rock formations and visits to the sea caves, with special emphasis on the famous Benagil Cave. Enjoy the sea breeze as the boats head for the high seas in search of dolphins. Go for a ride, slide on the water for kayaking, paddle…

ALL THIS IN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT ONLY THE ALGARVE CAN PROVIDE!
